Among these treasures lie the crown jewels of Japanese scenery, known as the Nihon sankei (日本三景). These’re embraced by the sea and lush greenery, have captivated the souls of countless individuals. The Nihon Sankei Consist of the Following Places
Firstly, there’s Matsushima (松島) – Located in Miyagi Prefecture. Matsushima’s a coastal area famous for its picturesque bay dotted with hundreds of small pine-covered islands.
Next is Amanohashidate (天橋立) – Situated in Kyoto Prefecture. Amanohashidate is a sandbar spanning the mouth of Miyazu Bay, covered in thousands of pine trees and often likened to a bridge to heaven.
Lastly, there’s Miyajima (宮島) – Also known as Itsukushima. This island in Hiroshima Bay is famous for its iconic “floating” torii gate at Itsukushima Shrine, which appears to be standing in the sea during high tide.
