Fukuura Island – Matsushima

Fukuura Island (福浦島, Fukuurajima), is a small island that sits off the shore of the city of Matsushima in the Matsushima bay. It’s one of the largest islands in the bay.

Fukuura Island’s connected to the mainland by Fukuura-bashi Bridge, painted brilliant vermillion with a total length of 252 meters. The island is a natural botanical garden with a network of pleasant walking trails.
There are approximately 250 species of plants (red pine, cedar and fir…) growing on.

Many locals are favourite this place. They can take a relax on the benches, enjoy nature, and walking for landscape around island.

Especially. Make sure to savor the delightful flavors of oysters, scallops, and various shellfish when dining in Matsushima. For a unique experience, try the local specialty of “Matsushima-style” oysters, which are served on a bed of rice in a small wooden box. You can enjoy at some restarants or bring them to enjoy in the grassy, table-equipped picnic area.

How to Get Fukuura Island

Like to other locations around Matsushima, we can walk there.
From JR Matsushima Kaigan Station, It takes about twenty -minute walk to bring you to Fukuura Island. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the Boat Pier.
